 Data ConversionMicroBiz can convert most data automatically to save our customers the time and trouble of re-keying the customer and product information. The average data conversion takes approximately 5 hours and costs $500. In order to provide an estimate for your company we will need a sample data file. Preferably, the file will be in ASCII or xBase format, which will allow the fastest conversion. Additionally, we will need an explanation of what the data in each field is, so that we do not have to guess. An ASCII file might look like this: "0199999911","BLUE UNDERWATER WIDGET","9.99","4.49","17","MS",.... What we need to know is what each item above is. While we would guess that the first field is the bar code number, and the second field is the description, we are not so sure about the next few fields. Please be advised that some data in a file may not be transferable from your old format to the new format. If you will identify what are the most critical fields, we will pay special attention to getting that information converted. How to send in sample data: The preferred method is to zip it up with PKZIP (DOS version) and COPY it to a floppy or to copy it to a ZIP drive or Jazz drive. Do NOT use Microsoft BACKUP to send in the data. You can save space on the diskette by only sending in the customer and product (item) files.
