 Ordering by Case, Selling Individual UnitsMany customers order by the case and sell their products by the unit. MicroBiz is not currently designed to order by the case. A reorder list in MicroBiz will give a Unit Quantity; it is up to the owner to translate this number into cases, if required. There is a work around for some clients with cigarette outlets that will easily allow ordering by case. To set the MicroBiz System for this use, do the following:
EXAMPLE: Cigarettes come 10 packs to a carton. Create a product called cigarettes, carton. Then create a kit called cigarettes, pack. The only kit component will be cigarettes, carton, with a quantity of 0.1. The reason for doing it this way is that products appear on reorder lists, but kits do not. MicroBiz will not track quantities of individual packs this way. Every time you sell a pack of cigarettes, the quantity of cigarette cartons is reduced by 0.1. When you create a reorder list, it will order the correct number of cartons. Fractional quantities on reorder lists will be rounded to whole numbers in versions 6.3 and later. Note that this does not work for all items. If there are 24 items per case (a common figure), the kit components should have a quantity of 0.0416666666666667. Since MicroBiz only allows two decimal places, this is not possible. To be perfectly accurate, only the following item per case values will work: 2, 4, 5, 10, 20, or 50. For all other values, you must order items individually instead of by the case. The only other option is to create two records for each item, case and individual.
