Multi-user Windows Installation Instructions
We support Novell Netware, NT, Windows peer to peer only.
(We do not support Novell Personal (Peer to Peer).)
Please follow these instructions carefully.
-
Disable all anti-virus software that may be running in the background.
Anti-virus software slows down the speed of operation significantly and will cause timing problems with record locking, which in turn will generate error messages. If you have a particular reason to be very concerned about viruses, we suggest that you run the virus checking software each morning or night, but not all the time.
- "Share" the ENTIRE server hard drive when setting this up. Later on, after installation, you can set the rights and restrictions.
-
Install the Windows version on the server first. This is the full install procedure found on the MicroBiz cdrom. Install it to the ROOT of the server. Do NOT install it in a folder.
- The BUSINESS sub-directory (folder) will be attached to the ROOT. Example - C:\BUSINESS.
- There will also be a C:\BIZWIN folder. The BUSINESS folder is where the shared data files are kept.
- BIZWIN is a local operating directory to be used by that station ONLY.
- Start the program up on the server. It will create the necessary files.
-
Map the additional workstations to the shared server drive. Example, call it F: and map to F:\
- Do NOT map to F:\BUSINESS.
-
Run the Additional Workstation Installation on EACH workstation from its own CDROM drive. This will create a C:\BIZWIN folder on EACH station. As the program starts up, it will automatically locate the F:\BUSINESS sub-directory on the server.
- Follow these instructions to the letter and your network will be set up quickly and easily.
