How To Use MSBackupDOS has made some changes with the "BACKUP" procedure and we have to upgrade our products along with it. MICROSOFT is a manufacturer of DOS (DISK OPERATING SYSTEM) and this is what is used on most computers. The older version of DOS (5 & below) uses a backup file called BACKUP.EXE, while the newer versions of DOS use MSBACKUP.EXE. This is a menu driven system and is better than the older version. Since most computers now are installed with DOS 6 or higher, MicroBiz had to make some changes that will allow the use of MSBACKUP. The first step was to make a TRIGGER file called MBZBACK.BAT, which will allow us access to use it from within our programs. The programs are set up to accept this trigger file that has to be copied into the PROGRAMS sub directory. The following guidelines will help you create this file and also help you step through the MSBACKUP routine. We will use BUSINESS Controller as an example: From your prompt C:\BUSINESS\1> we will create the file by typing COPY CON
MBZBACK.BAT Now you can go into the program and access the FORMAT/BACKUP screen. Backup Procedure: If this is your first time, MSBACKUP must configure itself to your system. For this you will need two blank formatted disks, because during the configuration the system will ask you to input them. While the system is running this procedure, you must follow the prompts on the screen because it will show you steps for backing up. The next steps will guide you through them. 1. From the DAILY MENU screen, choose FORMAT/BACKUP. 2. Enter where you want to backup FROM and TO, example, BACKUP FROM C: TO A: NOTE: Some programs will have a selection for OPTIONAL MBZBACK.BAT.
3. Once you hit The MICROSOFT BACKUP menu will appear with 5 selections; for this example we will use BACKUP. 4. Your hard drive will scan through your directory tree, then the BACKUP menu will appear.
5. Using your TAB key, TAB down to SELECT FILES 6. The system will display your DIRECTORY TREE along with the files to the right. 7. Use your DOWN ARROW key until you get to the directory you want to backup. Once you are there, the files will appear to the right; hit the SPACEBAR to mark them. (System will put a check mark next to them)
8. Once you have them marked, you will hit the the choice "OK." This will bring you back to your "BACKUP" menu again. 9. When you come back out, you should notice that the "S" in START BACKUP is highlighted. Either enter the letter "S" or " TAB" over to START BACKUP.
10. After this is done, you will hit the the MICROSOFT BACKUP screen. 11. QUIT out the "BACKUP" program and return to the MICROBIZ program. NOTE: These are the basic steps in getting you into the MICROSOFT backup routine and back out to MICROBIZ.
