Using DOS 6 And DOS 6.2 To Backup

The DOS 5 version of backup uses the "BACKUP.EXE" file and was coded with the MICROBIZ programs. DOS 6 and 6.2 use the "MSBACKUP.EXE" file which isn't coded with the MICROBIZ programs, so we have to edit your "MBZBACK.BAT" file.

When using DOS 5, was to select from the menu screen inside MICROBIZ and select where you want to backup from and where you want it to go. Now, with DOS 6 and above, the backup procedure is quite different. If you have been upgraded to DOS 6 or higher there are a few procedures that must take place before trying to backup for the first time.

To start you must have at least 2 formatted disks Note: not preformatted disks from the box ones that you have formatted yourself. The reason is because if you are using DOS 6 for the first time, the system will go through a configuration setup and you will need these two disks in order to complete the configuration. Once you type in "msbackup" at the DOS prompt, or go into your Controller and enter at the Daily menu, format/backup, you will go through the same procedure of configuring. This procedure is only done once during the first initial use.

The configuration process takes some time because it goes through a checking process and it will prompt you when to put the blank disks into the drive.

When performing the configuration, we suggest you watch the screen closely because you will have to go through the same procedure when doing the actual backup. Once the configuration is completed you can use those same disks to do your actual backup.
