Metrologic Optimus Advanced Use

Question:

  1. Can I display inventory descriptions and qty on my PDT?
  2. How can I set the Metrologic Optimus SP5500 to show my product descriptions when I am scanning the items?

Answer:

  1. Yes! you can display this.
  2. You will need to set up the PDT program initially then export the SKUs QTY and DESC and download them both to the PDT. Then whenever you scan in an item it will display your current on hand number as well as the description.

  • A. Program the Optimizer.
    • 1. Click 'Start'>>'All Programs'>>'Optimus Software'>>'Optimizer'
    • 2. Click 'File'>>'Save As'. And name the file Optimus (.opt)
    • 3. Define the Lookup table as shown (please click here for image).
      • a. On the left side click on the '+' sign next to the green folder, "Lookup Table".
      • b. Click 'Tbl 1' on the left side
      • c. Set the 'Number of fields' to "3".
      • d. Set 'Field Property' to "Fixed length"
      • e. Set offsets and Lengths as shown below - Field 1: Offset = 1 Length = 16 - Field 2: Offset = 17 Length = 60 - Field 3: Offset = 77 Length = 8
      • f. Uncheck both 'Data read & Upload' options.
      • g. Select 'Truncate / Reformat the Record' on the bottom left. (This will modify the description if there are invalid characters)
      • h. Select 'Show Warning and Insert' on the bottom right. (This will let them know the item does not appear in the lookup table but still add it to the count)
    • 4. Define the Form as shown (please click here for image).
      • a. On the left side click on the '+' sign next to the green folder, "Form 1".
      • b. Click 'Form 1' on the left side.
      • c. On the top-center of the page, set the 'Lookup table' to "Tbl1".
      • d. Set Line 1 'Data Type' to 'Text', Type in "SKU: " into the Prompt field, and Set 'Lookup' to '1st Field'.
      • e. Set Line 2 'Data Type' to 'Lookup', leave the Prompt field blank, and Set 'Lookup' to '2nd Field'.
      • f. Set Line 3 'Data Type' to 'Integer', Type in "QTY: " into the Prompt field, and Set 'Lookup' to '3rd Field'.
      • g. Click 'File'>>'Save'
    • 5. Download the Program to the SP5500
      • a. Turn on the SP5500
      • b. Select 'Utilities'>>'Transfer Files'>>'Get Program' and place it in the cradle.
      • c. From the Optimizer software, click 'tools'>>'Communication'>>'Download Program'>>'OK'
  • B. Export the Product list to the SP5500 PDT.
    • 1. Create a query within MicroBiz to export SKU. Desc, and QTY.
      • a. Open Microbiz, Go to 'Tools'>>'Query'>>'Data Dictionary'. -Click on New dictionary and put in an identifier, "PR". -Click on Import Fields, browse to your business folder and import product.dbf. -Click 'Done'.
      • b. Now go to 'Tools'>>'Query'>>'Query Manager' -Put in a title for the report and click OK.
      • c. Select 'Last Act' for "pick a field" and click next, select radio button 'greater than', then enter a date. (this will limit your items to items which have been sold since whichever date you enter here, one or two years ago is fine)
      • d. Click 'Done', and 'Done' again.
      • e. Double-click the fields 'Stocking keeping unit', (can be substituted with 'Alt SKU') 'Desc', and 'QTY'. (in that order)
      • f. Click 'Done'
      • g. Click 'Pick Output type' on the top right.
      • h. Click the radio button marked "text file with fixed record lengths"
      • i. Rename the QMF_TEMP file to QMF_LOOKUP on the bottom right of the screen and click Done.
      • j. Click 'Run Query', close the spreadsheet, as long as the number of records is large enough, and under 15,000, click 'YES'
    • 2. Download the Lookup Table to the SP5500
      • a. Turn on the SP5500
      • b. Select 'Utilities'>>'Transfer Files'>>'Get Lookup' and place it in the cradle.
      • c. From the Optimizer software, click 'tools'>>'Communication'>>'Download Lookup Table'>>'OK'
      • d. Once it finishes Transferring. You are ready to use the device.
