Metrologic Optimus Quick Start
Installation:
- Remove all the packaging material around all the devices and put the battery in the Hand Held Device (HHD)
- Take the cradle and place it on a horizontal surface so the HHD will not fall out of the device during communication
-
Plug the power connection into a 120v Alternating Current Outlet
(DO NOT PLUG IN THE USB CABLE TO THE COMPUTER)
-
Take the mini cd supplied with the unit and insert it into the cd drive of your computer.
(Please wait for the setup to begin)
- Follow the wizard in setting up your software
- After the installation is complete you may want to restart your computer
- If you restarted your computer you may insert your USB cable into the computer after Microsoftâ Windowsã opens. Otherwise plug in your USB cable after the install is complete
- After installing the USB cable into your computer a Found New Hardware prompt will show. Follow the prompts for this. Be sure to search for drivers on the CD
- Once this is complete your Optimus is fully installed
Checking Communication Settings:
HHD:
- Power on your Hand Held Device (HHD)
- Go to Utilities (Option 2)
- Go to Transfer Files and then to Send Data
-
The device will prompt you with your current settings in the device
(BE SURE TO MATCH THIS WITH YOU WINDOWS SETTINGS)
In Windows:
- Go to Start | Programs | Optimus Software | Optimizer
- When the Program opens go to Tools | Communication | Receive Data
- Verify that your communication settings are correct via Data from the HHD
Scanning Your Inventory:
To scan barcodes for inventory control you will need to start the optimus program.
- Turn on the power to the Optimus Hand Held Device
- Go to the main menu
- Choose Option 1 – Run Program
- You should now have a window that says ITEM and QTY
- Scan your barcode
- Enter the Qty of the product (use the keypad on the optimus HHD and hit the enter key to the left or right of the round orange button)
- This should now tell you what data line this is to be recorded and wait for the next entry
When done with the data collecting you may hit the ESC key on the HHD to exit the data collection program.
To upload the information you will need to do two things.
-
On the PDT - go to UTILITIES | TRANSFER FILES | SEND DATA.
This will display the connection type and speed selected on the HHD.
(This must match the computers selection as well)
- On the computer - go to START | PROGRAMS | OPTIMUS SOFTWARE | OPTIMIZER
After the program loads to your computer go to TOOLS | COMMUNICATIONS | RECEIVE DATA
When this window opens you will need to set up the communication variables identical to the HHD.
When ready to send the data click OK in the bottom right. (Be sure you have your file settings saved)
You should then get a prompt saying Waiting and then Success.
Configuring this to work with MicroBiz:
To import the data collected into MicroBiz you will need to use the MicroTrak method.
- In MicroBiz go to TOOLS | MICROTRAK | IMPORT DATA
- Tell MicroBiz if you are importing SKU and Serial Numbers or SKU and QTY
- Choose your options for whether or not you’re are updating QTY and replacing existing or adding to existing on hand quantities.
- Click import
- Point MicroBiz to the Text file uploaded from your HHD.
- Print the MicroTrak Exceptions Report (There is no way to re-print this)
Additional Information:
The File Properties Section:
Directory = Where the file will be saved
File Name = What the file will be named (i.e.: Microtrak.txt)
Save Mode = How will the file be saved (i.e.: Overwrite the existing, update the existing, etc.)
The Communication Section:
Device Type = Cradle-IR unless you have the HHD connected to the computer via some other means.
Com Port = This should equal the COM port designated in the Device Manager for the device 308
Baud Rate = This is the communication speed at which the information is transferred from the PDT to the computer. (NEEDS TO MATCH THE SETTING IN THE HHD PDT)
Options Section:
Add Return Character to each record = Adds an enter command after each record in the database for import into the program. i.e.: SKU: 12345 | QTY: 10 and SKU: 67890 | QTY: 5 would read as follows:
12345,10
67890,5
Add-Line Feed character to each record = Adds a character to the end of the data to signal the end of the line.
Show Messages in case of error = If an error exists then a message will be displayed
View the Received Data = After receiving the data from the PDT, a text document will open showing the data that was exported
Always show this dialog box = Will always show the dialog box
Keep Online for receiving data automatically = Keeps the PDT connected to the computer so when updates need to be made or a new download needs to take place you can just simply run the communications process.
Polling Time: Maximum amount of time to give for the file transfer.
