Clean And Pack LockupQ. When I clean and pack from within the program, I get hung up. Why does this happen? A. There are two ways to clean and pack files: From within the MAIN MENU: under MANAGEMENT, MAINTENENCE, CLEAN FILES. This option will reindex the files that are already created. If you get hung up here, it is usually an INDEX file that is corrupted, from one of the databases. NOTE: If you get stuck in here we will have to start the indexes from scratch by following the next step. The other way is from outside of the program, by going to DOS. Go to the C:\BUSINESS> and type DEL *.ntx. Then Type,
CD 1
From here you will type BUSINESS program. This will force the system to clean and pack on its own. NOTE: By deleting the ntx files you won't lose any information. Your data is stored in a dbf file which is a separate file. If your system locks up here, it could be one or two things. ONE is that there might be a problem with one of your data files. Or two, it will be that you might have a possible memory problem. NOTE: If you think it is one of these, you will have to call your local dealer or technician. And if they can't figure out the problem, call MICROBIZ. QUICK TIPS: If you think it is a memory problem, or you get an out of memory error, go to DOS and check your memory by typing the following: MEM/C, this will give you a memory summary. Look for your largest executable file statement; it should be at least 570k, if not call your dealer/technician or MicroBiz for support.
