Reinstalling MicroBiz ProgramsThere are times when you are using the MicroBiz program and you are confronted by an "ERROR MESSAGE," wherein the system will tell you, for example:
Clean and Pack your files When these error messages occur, it becomes a MAJOR concern for the end-users, once it comes to REINSTALLING the program. The question that arises is, "If I reinstall the program will I lose any of my data?" MicroBiz technicians hear this question often, and we tell customers that since they will have to reinstall the program, here are some tips that will relieve you of the thought of losing your data. Before you start reinstalling, make sure you have a valid set of backups, just in case of an emergency. Once you have a set of backups, you are ready to proceed toward correcting the problem. MicroBiz is not responsible for doing your backups. There are a few reasons why your Controller will not lose data. A series of functions take place that are not displayed during installation. On the screen you see the extraction of the files from the disk. This is what is happening behind the screen: On the install disk, there are files that are uncompressed with the extension of "NEW". These are the empty DATABASE files that you have on your system from the initial install. They are exact replicas of the files on your system with the "DBF" extension except they are empty. So at one point during the install you have two identical files on your drive. One with the NEW extension, the other with your data (DBF ext). During the extraction of the files from the disk, your data gets appended to these NEW files and is saved until you get to the "UPDATING DATA STRUCTURES". The system then converts your data files from the "NEW" ext. back to the "DBF" ext., which the program uses. Have a question about point-of-sale hardware or MicroBiz software?
