The LiquorBiz Controller FAQs

The Competitive Edge for Liquor Retailers

Frequently asked questions by liquor store owners:

How long will it take me to get my store up and running?
When we deliver and install your new computer system, you will be up and running as soon as we get the computer plugged in and turned on. Each system includes a database of thousands of items -so you don't have to be bothered typing every item in. As you ring up each item for the first time, it will check for the price - if there is no price for that item yet, it will ask you for it, and then remember it.

What kind of barcode reader should I use?
The two main types in use today are the "hand held laser scanner" and the "in-counter" scanner. The handheld has the advantage of being a little less expensive and being able to reach across the counter with it. The "in-counter scanner" has the advantage of being a one-handed method. You simply move the bottle over the scanner and the label is read. With your other hand you can be holding the paper bag that the bottle is going into. (With the handheld scanner you often have the scanner in one hand and the bottle in the other. Some handheld scanners have a mounting station that allows for one-handed operation.) It is also possible to have both scanners working at the same time as well. (CCD readers are not recommended because they have trouble reading bar codes that are printed in red and brown dyes, and also because they do not

Do I have to print a receipt for every sale?
Many store owners find it is not necessary to print a receipt except when the customer asks for one. So they leave the invoice printing turned off, and if the customer needs one, it is just one key press, to print it after the sale. (You can always print a receipt for the prior sale, even if you have already started ringing up a new customer.)

Sometimes we start ringing up a sale and the customer wants to go look for more items. Can I "suspend" that transaction and come back to it later?
Yes. No matter how many items are on a sale, you can suspend the sale and come back to it later
